|Altera Vastgoed NV (hereinafter: Altera) has reached agreement with Van Wijnen Projectontwikkeling West BV on the acquisition of the library in the De Rede apartment complex in the centre of Uithoorn. The 30 new-build apartments above it were taken over by Altera, fully let, in May 2022.
The library space has been leased to the municipality of Uithoorn on a multi-year agreement.
Altera’s CEO, Jaap van der Bijl, says, ‘In terms of ESG impact, choosing this investment is in keeping with Altera’s outlook on investment. Not only does the space have an A++ label – so it’s very sustainable – but using it as a library also has a social impact in the municipality of Uithoorn, with opportunities for different household compositions to get together in the library. This fits in well with how we implement the S for “Social” in ESG and is appropriate to Altera’s mission: Good for you, Good for others.’
The De Rede complex, located on the dyke along the River Amstel, consists of homes, a harbour office and a library. Many of the homes have balconies overlooking the adjacent marina. The recently opened library was designed by the internationally renowned architect Aat Vos. His vision for the ‘new style’ library is to create a home from home for the inhabitants of Uithoorn.
To retain the openness and flexibility of the space, enormous bookcases stand against the walls. The books form a sort of backdrop to the interior. There is a work bar that overlooks the Amstel, there are several seating areas under ‘homely’ roofs, silent workstations, comfortable armchairs to relax in and four meeting rooms, one large and three small. There is also a stage that can be used for performances, debates, events and suchlike. And a special children’s area can be found at the rear of the library.
