Altera and De Nijs/UBA start construction on The Mayor in Amstelveen

Real estate investor Altera Vastgoed NV (hereinafter: Altera) has announced that the building consortium De Nijs/UBA has this week started the initial construction phase for the transformation of the former KPMG headquarters in Amstelveen.

Renamed The Mayor, the building on Burgemeester Rijnderslaan will be converted into a residential complex offering apartments, penthouses and townhouses. The project will offer a total of 307 homes, 124 of which will be private sector rental units, while remaining homes will be sold to private individuals. The first phase will see the realisation of 50 rental units and 68 owner-occupied homes. Delivery is slated for the first quarter of 2022.

Erwin Wessels, Altera CIO: “Thanks to its excellent living conditions and prime location in the centre of the greater Amsterdam metropolitan area, The Mayor is a perfect fit in our sustainable housing portfolio. The upcoming lowering of the A9 motorway and the green flyovers in the centre of Amstelveen will further optimise traffic flows and accessibility in the area.”

The Mayor’s 124 three-room rental units will range in size from 87 to 118 sq. m. Each apartment will have a high-quality finish and offer a high-end kitchen and bathroom, as well as a spacious balcony, or a rooftop or ground-floor terrace. Residents will be able to park their cars in the building’s underground parking garage, and the complex will provide a wide range of facilities, including an on-site service manager, a private gym and additional services for residents.

Energy will be supplied by a thermal energy storage facility, the rooftops will feature a combination of moss and solar panels, and the current stone courtyard will be replaced by an inviting green garden. Charging stations for electric vehicles are also being installed. Thanks to these green facilities, this new addition to Altera’s portfolio is perfectly aligned with the investor’s sustainability goals.
