New HEMA store opened in Het Rond in Houten

Altera Vastgoed (hereinafter: Altera), together with HEMA CEO Saskia Egas Reparaz and franchise entrepreneur Rick van der Weijden, hosted the festive opening of the new HEMA XL in the Het Rond convenience centre in Houten.

Over the past three years, we have looked together with stakeholders into the further strengthening of Houten’s city centre area and the wishes of franchisee Van der Weijden for the implementation of the XL concept. The desire for a larger HEMA (approximately 1,900 m²) in Het Rond resulted in the store being relocated to the shopping arcade.

The new HEMA is a one-way walk-through store and occupies part of the arcade between Nick & Son and Xenos. Both Mies Boetiek and Hunkemöller have been relocated to a new shop within the arcade. The new Mies Boetiek is a larger shop of over 350 m², in which it has expanded on its women’s fashion range to include home accessories and café Mies. With this shop, the arcade was fully let by the end of October 2022.

Erwin Wessels, CIO of Altera: “The relocation of the HEMA is a step towards a stronger and more compact Het Rond shopping centre. The expansion and investment carried out by this tenant shows the confidence of our tenants in the future viability of the centre. We look forward to an arcade filled with satisfied consumers and retailers.”

Rick van der Weijden: “As a HEMA franchisee in Houten, it’s fantastic to be able to establish yourself in such a dream location. We’re extremely grateful to Altera for its creative thinking in making the HEMA possible at this location.”

For the renovations, SUM Architects, which previously designed the Vershof, was responsible for the design. Construction company Pennings handled the relocation.
