Sustainability certification for all portfolios

After the Residential and Retail portfolios, the commercial space portfolio has also been issued sustainability certifications. The large commercial space portfolio is the first of its kind to become BREEAM certified in the Netherlands. A total of 9 buildings with 64 units received the BREEAM NL In-Use certificate. These buildings represent approximately 80,000 sq. m. of commercial space and approximately 15,000 sq. m. of office space. The certification is a major step in boosting the sustainability of Altera’s real estate.

CIO Erwin Wessels explains: “Obtaining sustainability certificates for all Altera portfolios is an important step forward. After all, it is an essential baseline measurement that provides insights useful for additional sustainability measures in the future. We are highly ambitious: we aim to further reduce energy consumption, optimize waste flows and be economical in our use of water.”

The certification was carried out by real estate advisor Colliers International. The new portfolio approach, developed by the Dutch Green Building Council, provided an effective means of certifying the entire portfolio. This method was also used during the certification of Altera’s retail portfolio of approximately 200,000 sq. m. at the end of 2018. By further developing the DGBC BREEAM Energy Tool, Colliers is the first to show the energy consumption of logistics warehouses in this way.
