Altera Vastgoed achieves top score in UN sustainability benchmark

Real estate investor Altera Vastgoed NV (hereinafter: Altera) has once again achieved the highest possible score in the annual UN Principles for Responsible Investment (hereinafter: UN PRI) benchmark.

Sustainability has been an integral part of Altera’s policy for years, both for the management platform and for the residential and retail portfolios. This has led us to develop an integrated value creation model in which sustainability plays an integral role.

To measure its progress and results, Altera shares its data with UN PRI (and other market participants) on an annual basis. By participating in benchmarks like this, we are able to provide additional transparency to our stakeholders regarding our sustainability policy and performance. Because we report on the results of these benchmarks annually, our stakeholders get an objective, uniform and consistent overview of what we have achieved, and of our progress against our targets.

UN PRI helps guide our sustainability efforts. The benchmark provides us with external validation on ESG in our organisation and policies. This year, Altera was awarded five stars by UN PRI for the applicable ‘Real Estate’ and ‘Policy, Governance & Strategy’ modules.

Altera CEO Jaap van der Bijl:  “Following the recent results in the GRESB benchmark, where we were named sector leader for our residential and retail funds, Altera’s UN PRI results provide further transparency to our stakeholders regarding the implementation of our sustainability policy and performance. By reporting on the outcome of this benchmark annually, we are able to provide an objective, uniform and consistent overview of our results.”

ESG Manager Rudy Verstappen: “Our score shows that we’re moving in the right direction when it comes to optimising our strategies and implementing our ESG policies. Of course, this recognition of our efforts is an incentive to keep evaluating and optimising our climate mitigation and climate adaptation strategies.”

About UN PRI UN PRI is a partnership between the UNEP Finance Initiative and the UN Global Compact. One of the key components of this partnership is a globally leading and fully independent benchmark for responsible investment. Established in 2005, the network aims to improve understanding of the investment implications of ESG factors, and to support PRI signatories in integrating these factors into their investment and ownership decisions. Signatories contribute to the ongoing development of a more sustainable and transparent financial system and responsible investment guidelines.
